Bravery In Excellence
It requires an intense level of bravery in some ways to work here. But we're working with other really brave clients, so it has to match. You can't have these really brave impact investment entrepreneur venture founders and these brave venture investors impact investors, and then you can't have a mealy-mouse support team going on—you have to match the bravery. Because we're solving big things together. They need us, we need them as clients, but we need that partnership and you have to be brave, I mean, to a level that you didn't know you had sometimes. Well, there has to be alignment with our work and of course our clients’ work. And I think you and I have been in many conversations where everyone's like, we want to have a safe space for everybody. And we know entrepreneurship is not a safe space to be in. It's a very brave space to be in. You have to be accepting of the fact that if you're going to be an entrepreneur, you're going to be uncomfortable. To me, bravery does go hand in hand with excellence because you're attempting to do something that's not normally done. If it was easy and comfortable, everyone would do it. No, I think you're right on point in the fact that to be excellent you have to be uncomfortable and you have to push your own boundaries. And you have to push the boundaries of what you think you might know in terms of a certain area. You have to push your boundaries in terms of your comfort level. You have to sustain that for a long time. And that in and of itself is uncomfortable. I don't see how you can't operate in excellence and not be brave.
